report nation-of-sale data for
2025. (Nation data reporting
becomes an annual requirement
each December for large
producers.)
If the UK’s Deposit Return Scheme
(DRS) for drink containers is not
operational by 2028, those items
(plastic, glass, metal drink containers)
will fall under EPR and incur fees
by 2028. Also by end of 2028, the
government will review pEPR’s
effectiveness and may adjust the
scheme.

New Requirements
Pending
Apr 2027: Deadline for nation
data on 2026 packaging. Potential
introduction of mandatory
‘Recycle/Do not Recycle’ labelling
on packaging (originally slated for
2027, though this was delayed
in legislation). Producers should
nonetheless prepare for eventual
standardised recycled labels on
consumer packaging.
Beyond 2028
Future Outlook
Expect ongoing re昀椀nements:
RAM (Recyclability Assessment
Methodology) gets updated
annually through 2030
(e.g. potential inclusion of
compostable by 2029), and
smaller producer exemptions
could be re-evaluated. EPR
is an evolving landscape, so
staying informed via DEFRA/EA
updates is crucial.
