Plastic Packaging Tax

prohibits the sale and distribution of certain single-use plastic items in the UK. This includes
plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds, which help create a detrimental impact on marine
life and ecosystems.
The Plastic Packaging Tax is designed to encourage recycling of plastic products that can be
reused in production of new plastic products. There is a threshold of 30% recycled material
in all plastic packaging, any products with less than 30% recycled content has to pay the
Plastic Packaging Tax that is currently set at £223.69/tonne from April 2025.
